I will shortly attempt to retire in Mexico and I am trying to keep my costs down. Thus, I was wondering if it is possible and advantageous to get my FM-3 application filled out in Ajijic, or will I have to go elsewhere? Additionally, can anyone inform me about the length of time it takes to process one. Finally, are there individuals available who can assist me in getting through the process?Thank you for assistance in this matter.Paul

You have a number of different choices.1. You can go to the Immigration office in San Antonio Tlayacapay. They speak English and they will help you. It can be time consuming and tedious and it may take a few weeks to a month to get your papers.2. If you join the Lake Chapala Society, they have people who will help you will the application. Again a bit tedious and will take a few weeks to a month.Both of these options are free.3. Go to an "immigration specialist". There are a number of them here at Lakeside. They charge a fee but everything goes through quickly and smoothly and you should have your FM3 in approximately a week.

It takes about a month to get your FM3. Maybe sooner if you use the firm of Chavez & Myers, www.NaftaExecutives.com, whom I use and endorse.
