Hi...

I'm a procrastinator.

I've been told that the word "procrastinar" exists in Spanish, but also told that it doesn't, and to use "dilatar".

What do native speakers say?

I am no native, but that is Spanglish. In addition to the word you offered,retrasar,o demorar, could be used.

Aunque no soy nativo (crecí en España), uso el verbo ´aplazar´ para significar ´procrastinate´. Uno puede usar también ´dilatar´, pero creo que ´procrastinar´ es spanglish y no lo he oído usar entre la gente culta.

procrastinar. (Del lat. procrastinare). 1. tr. Diferir, aplazar.

When talking about procrastination, in Mexico we just make a face, sigh and say "mañaaaana."
In certain situations, "dudar" or "vacilar" might fit. "No esperes"! might be another choice.

Hay palabras en "El Real" que son Spanglish. Hay veces que tarden años para estar acaptados. No es un tomo estancado.

Para mí, si una palabra está en el diccionario del Real Academia, <<es Español>>, si no allí, todavía es posible.

Muy de acuerdo con esa idea: lo que está en el D.R.A.E. es español.

Es verdad que la Real Academia Española mantiene secciones en todos los países en donde se habla español, alrededor del mundo -los Estados Unidos incluidos-, y que continuamente incorpora nuevas palabras regionales al diccionario. Pero lo que está dentro del mismo por supuesto debe de ser considerado español, y no spanglish ni ninguna otra cosa.

En el caso particular del verbo procrastinar, pudiera incluso decirse que es más español que inglés, dado que proviene del latín. Siendo el español una lengua romance, y el inglés sajona, tal vez podemos afirmar que procrastinar va más del español al inglés que del inglés al español.

(Sí, claro: el inglés incorpora directamente palabras latinas desde cuando Londres era Londinium Augusta, capital de provincia romana. Hablo aquí en términos coloquiales, no estrictos.)

Creí que el spanglish,es algo moderno, pero aunque hay palabras como: parquear, laptop, hardrive, chatear,barcoud,barman,(Muchas son términos de la technología) etc, tambien hay palabras que han existidos para tantos años, que los aceptamos como español correcto: armada,arroyo,archivar,y anotar,son unos ejemplos de palabaras prestadas al español, hace tanto tiempo, que las consideramos aceptables.

Been fine if busy. Just back from 6 days in Sedona--pretty country. Was there for a conference. Leaving on the 13th for Europe (Holland,Germany, Czech REp.,Austria, Luxembourg and Belgium--2 weeks. Ranchito is going well--you can check out pics at http://community.webshots.com/user/jimincancun
My mama pig had 12 piglets on Sept. 16th!! Bought 3 horses and building a stable. Busy, busy busy!! So you got a new "Mayor", right?? Will no doubt fix all the problems!!

Yea its pretty there. I flew into Sedona once in a 4 seat Cessna, quite a white-knuckle experience as the airfield is up on top of a 500 ft mesa.
EIEIO, you got quite an operation going there. I gave up on horses myself, too expensive. I mean, the horses could have been free and it would be too expensive with all the infrastucture: corrals, waterers & plumbing, feeders, truck, trailer, turn out pen, tack, shoes every six weeks, vets, worming medicine, grooming supplies...it took up my whole life.
I don't expect much from the mayor, the problems he has to solve will require a cultural change over several generations. We already have the grey uniformed soldiers with big guns patrolling the neighborhoods, don't know what else to do. I have noticed the results of a cleanup campaign though, fewer abandoned cars and less graffiti.
