Will be in Mazatlan for U.S. Thanksgiving and Christmas. Don't do New Year's Eve much anymore. Any good place for Thanksgiving dinner? And any special Christmas events we should catch? Thanks.

If I remember correctly, there are lots of "gringo" places that offer up the traditional
US Thanksgiving fare. I wouldn't be surprised if Canucks caters to the US Thanksgiving.

There is the annual Christmas Posada in the Plazuela Machado in Christmas week plus other bits of celebration, as well as live entertainment in the Plaza Revolucion by the Palacio Municipal (or City Hall as I call it).

Hmm, we'll be there a month before Thanksgiving and plenty rested up. Can you buy a turkey there to fix at home? Ivan does great turkey and stuffing.

They sell frozen turkeys but they are expensive if I remember correctly. You might think about bringing one down with you packaged and on dry ice. You could then put it in the frig till it's time.

We quit turkey back in the early 90's when everyone at the party filled up on Oyster Rockefeller and the whole turkey was a leftover. Now, Oyster Rockefeller is the main dish. We also have sashimi and sushi.

I guess it wouldn't make a lot of sense to have a bird when all t hat wonderful fresh seafood is available.

I've made several Thanksgiving feasts in various parts of Mexico and turkey is not hard to get. It's a very popular food, turkey is in all of the markets. You may have to use a fresh turkey and in rural areas you may have to order your turkey before the day, but both are an improvment over the frozen type. If you really want frozen, Mazatlán has WalMart and CostCo and lots of large supermarkets that will have what you are looking for. The only traditional things that can be hard to find are canned pumpkin and cranberries. I used to always bring fresh cranberries and canned cranberry sauce with me to Mexico but even those are turning up in large stores now. I still always carry a can of pumpkin and a bag of cranberries, you never know when the urge will strike.
