Lapaloma

Can anyone tell me anything about an area called Lapaloma? I read in one of the books on Mexico that it is a town / area about 12 miles north of Mazatlan. When I visited Mazatlan last year, I tried to find this area - even asked staff at the hotel - nobody knew the name.

Thanks.

Double check the name and it's spelling. (that would be two words in Spanish by the way, ie: la paloma. It doesn't sound familiar to me and I have asked a couple of locals and long timers who have never heard of it either.

Marlene,

On page 201 of Ken Luboff's book, 'Adapter Kit Mexico", he says that north of Mazatlan ... "several small new gated beachside developments have sprung up north of town on the beach road .... In La Paloma, about 12 miles north of town, beachfront homes start at ..."

Ever heard of this place?

Thanks.

I just re-read your post and didn't see the 12 miles north thing. 12 miles north is what I perceive to be Nuevo Mazatlan. It's south of Marmol. A stretch of nothing. Electricity goes out to a certain point but there is no water. The locals have to haul water via a truck. The properties are between the railroad tracks and the ocean. There is no security out there. I would suspect that you'd have to have a full time security person on the premisis.
In 10 years it could be a cool place. However, most of the land behind that area is either flat or estuary so any tidal surge coupled with large rainfall could lead to extensive flooding. No roads are paved past the big condo complex Emerald Bay. There is also a Betty Ford Clinic out that way. But I've never heard the name La Paloma used.

Right, that area between Emerald Bay and Oceanica (the rehab clinic) is called el Delfin. There is a La Paloma gated condo along the malecon between centro and the Golden Zone, but I have a feeling that the author of the book has confused Mazatlān with Puerto Vallarta, which happens from time to time.

Esteban,

Thanks for the info. Sounds primitive .... I'll keep searching for beach-front living a little closer to conveniences.

Marlene,

Thanks for the further clarification ... can you suggest any realtors / property management companies that I can talk to re: renting beach-front homes?

Thanks.

For it's size, Mazatlan has very few beachfront homes. You may find beachfront condos for rent or find places to rent that are across the street from the beach but homes right on the beach are rare. Go to google.com and type in mazatlan realty and you'll get a lot of info.
