Has anyone used cantera (stone) for kitchen countertops? If so, did you seal them?

My polished granite countertops have not been sealed. The fountain and pillars at my house, which are pink and white cantera, receive periodic sealings with silicon. If you're planning to use cantera for kitchen counters, I'd recommend sealing to protect against spills and to prevent staining.

I may be wrong but isn't Cantera stone VERY soft and therefore would not work as a countertop?

It is soft and porous. A friend wants to use it and has seen several kitchen counters where it is used. There was staining around the sink and she wondered if it could be sealed. She thinks the Delores Hidalgo tile sluffs off. I used Cortez tile from Delores Hidalgo and he has a higher fire and I have had no problem in 15 years. I love the concrete counters. My favorite is one that looks like jade. I used the Mission Tile floors in my house and sealed them with Sellatek which is wonderful for concrete tile. There was or is a great company in SAn Luis Potosi that made them. Having your rug in your floor is wonderful in this climate. You are charged by the number of colors in each tile. I am afraid that this may be a floor that will be phased out and it will be a great loss. I also used them in the bathrooms on the counters and in the shower.
