Why not? Many of us cook Asian food in our Mexican kitchens, don't we? In fact, I'm cooking pan fried noodles and lop chung sausage for supper tonight.

From my perspective as a moderator on this forum, I see nothing wrong with posting recipes that you use while living in Mexico. To me, it's interesting to find out how expats prepare food using what is available locally. I don't prepare exclusively Mexican style meals as a day to day event. Since I've moved here, I have been using more chile's, more salsas and fresh spices than I used up north. I also buy seasonal fruits and veggies as well as seasonal mariscos. My normal buying habits include sales too. Salmon has been running 72 pesos a kilo....not real Mexican fare but with the side dishes and sauces it all becomes something like a normal day in the life of a gabacho.

Estebancito,

I agree.

Realistically, the "authentic" 8P Mexican people
do not eat exclusively tacos, enchiladas, chiles,
or beans, etc on an exclusive basis.

I figger, if it is available, it is cookable
wherever you are in this wonderful word!

Jut chekin in advance, dont wanna get beaten with
anymore wet noodles, I am about as beat up as one
can be and still be kickin )8-))

De Acuerdo! I figure that I live in Mexico, I shop in Mexican mercados, I cook in Mexico, I use Mexican ingredients even if I adapt a Swahili recipe. I have a two-burner countertop stove fired by butano and often we grill over my wonderful old tire rim. ANYTHING I cook is therefore Mexican.

Bring on the Asian recipes (with compatible Mexican ingredients as realistic substitutes, please).

Almost 40 years ago ...golly, that DATES me! ... when I already knew I would live in Mexico, I began learning to make stuff from scratch so I would have it if I needed it.

I have been known to bring 40 hamburger buns from Dallas to Guanjuato to make burgers for the whole family ...
but now Bimbo is readily available.

So I am used to substituting or otherwise making do.

And with such luscious produce in mi Mexico - asian tastes better than ever!

Will post some things starting this week.

Hugs, Lav

Okay, I'll bite. I'm asking you about your groups about Mexico and cooking. If they're something commercial, maybe you'd better reply to me personally rather than using this forum for an ad.

I agree with Carol, but Lavanda has posed the question so that it appears she will post Asian recipes free on Mexico Connect. I hope this is true. If so, I will look forward to her Asian recipes with a Mexican flavor. And if I choose at some later date to support her business site, well, quien sabe.

Rolly does a great job of moderating a forum while maintaining his own Web site. Let's hope for the benefit of us all that Lavanda does something similar.

Then again, how many of us have purchased Don Adams' book only because we know and respect him on Mex Connect and often see posts referring to that product? I don't think the issue of commercialism has come up with reference to the widespread mention of his book in glowingly enthusiastic posts on non-business related fora. Let's support Lavanda and give her a chance to explain in further detail how her own Web site will be handled. After all, she has paid her dues on Mex Connect and given lots of time and free (dependable) advice to many of us.

Thank you Carron.

I was a bit taken aback this am at one person's reaction to my signature.

EVERYTHING I do online is free. I do it for the joy of doing it and for my love of Mexico, cooking, and gardening!

I have been an active member of mexconnect since 97. I have been quiet for the past year because of severe health problems, from which I am doing my best to overcome.

For a while, until my illnesses got too much for me to be online. I was a moderator of THIS forum. Indeed, for a while, after Karen Gruber left the moderatorship, I was the only moderator here ON THIS FORUM.

By the way, those who moderate, do it for FREE! At least that is what I did it for, again, for a love of people, cooking, and MEXICO!

My lists on the other location are free, and will always remain so.

As a recovering workaholic, who retired because of health reasons in 1997, I am here and on the other groups as a
VOLUNTEER, but I DO have a lot to offer, and enjoy sharing information, so I consider this my new "career".

The only reason I changed my signature line, which, I understand is not illegal nor bad netiquette on this website, is because I saw many people interested in the topic of my lists/groups, again WHICH ARE FREE, and felt it too crass to just ocome out and MENTION on the forum.

As for the asian recipes, they are coming.

Love and hugs, Lavanda

(Many people who are members will remember me from way back when. I dont believe I should have to justify myself, but since it has come up, I am.)
