Is it possible to bring a spare DirectTV receiver, setup and paid for to receive service in NYState, to Guanajuato Mexico, and hook it up there to a 4 ft. dish, and receive service as if it were in NYS?

In Mazatlan, the folks that do this are using a 2 meter dish. You can get the dish here in Mexico so don't bring one with you. You can also get an installation guy to set it up.

There is one catch though, DirecTV has two types of beams, the conus beam which you will be able to pick up and spot beams for local stations. Some if not all of the stations from NY are on the conus beams. To find out whether all of the stations you subscribe to are on the conus beams or whether a few are on the NY spot beams go to www.lyngsat.com and work your way in to the DirecTV satellites section.

Local satellite dealers in your area should know how big a dish you will need. If you do not have a contact there you might email mel@dbstv.com He has contacts in your area, mention that I recommended you contact him

You might also find the www.DBSTV.com forum helpful. Just click on forum and work your way in
