money exchange

Can anyone tell me when and where I can exchange dollars for pesos after I cross the border. I know any cambio will do it...but if I'm on a bus that takes me across the border and then to the N. Laredo bus station...........will there be a place to exchange at the bus station in N. Laredo? Trying to coordinate all of this and this one has me stumped. My only stop on the way to Maz will be in Durango late at night. I will need pesos before that in order to buy tickets, food, etc. Anybody done this before?
Thanks,
Becki

Why not buy pesos at home before you leave? We always get enough pesos to do us for gas, etc. from the bank here in Canada.

It's also amazing how many businesses now have signs stating their own exchange rates--i.e., they are happy to be paid in dollars. The rates aren't great, but it is easy.

We ordered pesos online by Bank of America and then picked it up the nearest banking center. We ordered enough to get us to our destination and then once we got there we took money out of the ATMs.

The closer you get to the border, the better the exchange rate..Just a few weeks ago, the Atlanta Airport was charging about 15-20% premium for the exchange..I've found that at any village/town square, there is an exchange or bank, and the rates were the best..

Many of the border bus stations do have casas de cambio, but they are not necessarily open 24 hours. I have hit this problem with buses arriving during the night. If you are desperate and have enough time between buses, there is usually a helpful taxi driver who will take you to an exchange. I had one such driver who took me all over Villahermosa until we found the best possible exchange rate. Of course, he got most of that back in the form of a tip!

WE are here in Mazatlan after over 28 houurs on buses. Tired but ready to go some more. Amazing how our minds still think we can run on less sleep but the bodies say loudly........NO more until I sleep!!
Had no troulbe exchanging money at the bus station. Really we did not have one single hitch from the time we left San Antonio TX to Maz. We did have to search for a hotel in our budget for about an hour due to this being a high season for Mexican nationals to vacation.
More later, and thanks for the replies to all my questions.
