It's 7.55AM Monday and I just talked to Prodigy again. The tech there told me that they have no idea when the email problem will be resolved. He said, "Usually they write a time frame--say two hours or whatever--on our trouble board, but we have nothing that would indicate when this one might be fixed. The problem with the server continues."

I just checked and Prodigy is working again. I seem to have lost a couple of days of messages but new ones are coming in.

I was able to send an email to a prodigy client and it was not kicked back, which usually means that he will get it. However I read on another forum that only some of the mail is getting through.

I sure hope everything gets back to normal soon.

Pete, my messages were not "kicking back" either. That is what makes it so frustrating. They just disappeared into outer space. I know that I have missed some as Susan has gotten copies on her Yahoo address and mine on Prodigy did not come through. Even though I have lost some the system seems to be working fine now.

This was happening to me last month and I quit using Prodigy because not only did it make my mail vanish, the mail that folks sent to me disappeared too. I can resend my mail, but if I don't get it, I don't even know to ask. Part of it is a consistent issue that Prodigy has been having, over at least the last 6 months, of somehow changing my (and that of friends, as well) address from XXX@prodigy.net.mx to xxx@prodigy.mx.net. Why, how and where this happens I cannot find out, but it's not a local configuration issue.

I am getting my Saturday mail now! In fact some new mail from this morning was received before the Saturday and Sunday mail. (Question: does it make any difference whether you are on dial up as opposed to DSL, or are these lovely problems common to both?)

Each day that my Prodigy email service was down, I sent four test emails per day from my Yahoo account to my Prodigy account. The only messages of the ten that I sent, that made it through, were the last two sent. The other eight disappeared. So, who knows what messages of importance were lost.

To the best of my knowledge, Prodigy uses the same mail servers regardless of whether you are connected via dialup or ADSL. So if you are having mail server problems with one type of connection, you will have problems with the other. That's certainly how it works with Lagunanet.

Pete, I have four accounts other than my regular Prodigy account. I could send/receive on all four, even though Prodigy email was down. One of my other ones is Hotmail; the others come through a website. Go figure.

Yes Esperanza, you would expect that. It was only prodigy's email system that was down, so no matter how you went to it, or connected to it, the system failed.

You were able to surf the web or when using outlook Express for example communicate with your other four mail accounts. So you would expect them to work.

Just as a passing remark, I had an account at Hotmail and one at Yahoo. I almost never used the one at Hotmail and often used the Yahoo account. Yet I would always receive more spam on the Hotmail account than the Yahoo account. I am wondering if my experience is/was unique, or if this is what all of you have experienced.

As a result of my Spam experience at Hotmail I have abandoned that account.

Recently, somehow Prodigy quit delivering my SPAM. I am not complaining as it was a bother getting 75 to 100 spam each day. I just wondered if they have been putting them somewhere and wound up clogging up the wires.
