Rolly

Why not classify such things under the generic 'componentes de red de computadora' and leave it at that?

Most likely because each component has a power cord and a serial number and must be listed separately.

USB hub = Hub USB

DSL filter = ?? Filter DSL ??

mini-router = mini-router

Don't sweat it if the translations aren't exactly correct. It's the model and serial number that really are important.

The Spanish language section of a Cisco manual I had sitting here used ruteador for router, conmutador for switch, and concentradores for concentrator, the latter being the technical term for a hub. At the same time in idle chats with staff at internet cafes the English language terms (router, switch, hub) were used when idly chatting about their equipment and network topology. You might consider using a description like "Ruteador (router), LinkSys BFR-11, S/N 1234556677".

DSL filters don't usually have serial numbers, but how about "filtro de DSL"?

Regarding recording serial numbers

Rolly, may I offer some unsolicited advice to give to your friend. This is from recently having my belongings cross the border. I was under the mistaken impression that one had only to list the make, model and serial number of anything that plugged in. i.e. electrical. Well I was wrong to about the tune of three hundred bucks. I failed to list the make, model and serial number of a tiller. It is powered by GASOLINE. They fined me $300 and threatened to confiscate it. They would have if it had not been for Doug Strom there at the border crossing. He talked them out it. The only thing I can figure out is that they wanted to make sure it wasn't new. Obviously used, but only my word that it was less than six months old. I think this may been my first lesson that in Mexico things are the way they are because they are. Don't fight it, just go with the flow and don't get your panties in a wad. Gasoline......go figure!
