Actually, I think I saw one the other day at Super Lake when I went in there to buy cat food. Of course it only registered as high as 250* F and it cost that many pesos................................ :^D

Checked out Super Bandito....no got. 250*C would be just fine. I seldom use a hotter oven.

I attended a local moving sale a few days ago and I scored one! A local expat moving to Spain. Too heavy to pack along. It is still in the package, new. Cooking in my neighborhood should sufficiently improve.

Too heavy to pack???????? We are talking about an oven thermometer here, aren't we? Ours might weigh in at an ounce, if it's got some grease splashed on it. Our did I just get the cheapy model instead of the industrial strength cast-iron one?

I guess if it was still new and in the original package, the previous owners probably won't spend much effort in looking for a replacement in Spain.

Just wondering.......

That's why I snapped it up at 30 pesos (and it's cool!) Geez, the things that excite us once we have lived in Mexico for a spell!

Inquiring minds want to know: what kind of oven thermometer is it, Marlene, and how much does it weigh? It sounds like something quite special.

Sounds like it must be the Williams of Sonoma Professional Turbo model.

No, the Turbot Model only comes with Esteban's fish poacher.

I was only joking... It would be considered average and every day (I think) to those of you that already own one. It's just that when you have an oven with no temperature guide on the dial, and where you usually guess the actual temperature, the sudden prospect of being able to cook to the prescribed temperature is something to look forward to. (Especially if you knew my cooking ability, so here's hoping it works).

The thermometer will probably throw you off. Your feel and experience with your oven, as modified by the tropical heat, factoring in a cool tradewind, with allowance for the humidity, is more than a match for a machine............especially one that hasn't yet been calibrated for your area. :-)

Happy cooking,

E
