"A Day Without Mexicans"

It's the name of a new film that will be released soon. The story revolves around the idea that there will be no more Mexican workers in California. Molotov has their "Frijolero" song as part of the soundtrack. Check out a review here:

Saw it last night. A good film, but I'm not 100% in agreement with the portrayal of Mexicans in California. The premise is a great one, but I think they could have dome much better. All in all, it is a fun movie, though.

I saw the movie last winter in Guadalajara, at the Guadalajara Festival del Cine. The director and the crew were there to answer questions afterward. It was funny and well done.

We saw it in Monterey, Alta CA. The non-mainstream movie houses appear to be the ones that will carry this film.

Elke:

We are becoming disenchanted with MBE. It's taking us forever to get our DVDs. The last shipment was mailed by Netflix on May 24th and due at Maiboxes, Etc. in Laredo on May 27th and we still have not received them here in Ajijic. Something is amiss.

We are new to MBE and use them mainly for Netflix rentals. If they can't deliver, we are out of there which would be a shame since Netflix is a great product.

What has been your experience?

Bubba

Bubba,

even though we just bought a house at Lake Chapala, we're still NoB. We get our Neflix movies out of their Denver Office, so living in Colorado Springs, we usually get them the next day after they ship. Maybe a letter of complaint to MBE may be in order, sounds like they are at fault.
I'm surprised to hear that you are able to get netflix DVD's shipped via MBE to Mexico - they don't add custom's duty? Cool to know that you can get them!

I used MBE for 6 months--but only because I foolishly signed a 6-month contract. Your experience, Rev Bubba, is exactly the same as mine: 4-5 day promise of delivery with 2-3 weeks (or sometimes more, and sometimes never) the actuality. Caveat emptor.

Yes, they (MBE) have lost some of my mail as well. But is there a better faster economical service? I always thought the basically free government mail was/is slower especially for items sent from the US.

Johanson, you need to get on back down here and go to the post office. The Mexican mail service is not exactly "basically free", and it's also about as speedy as MBE. Letters take about 3 weeks to arrive from the States or Canada using either the local Mexican postal service or the local MBE.

I much prefer paying 150 pesos a year for my Ajijic post office box than paying over $300USD for the same snail's pace service from MBE. If what I'm receiving isn't time-specific (like my magazine subscriptions, the one bill I receive that I review and pay online rather than waiting for paper, etc), then who cares how long it takes?
