Any last minute advice?

Can't Post | Private Reply
Thanks everyone. the input we have received has been very helpful. We will be arriving Saturday for our fact finding mission. Staying a week or longer. Have connected with a law office and realtor and will be meeting with them for information.

Taking a taxi from the airport and arriving at slightly past midnight. Got a nice condo for US$30 per night and directions in Spanish for the taxi driver. Will be using local cabs and maybe public transport to get the feel of things though when/if we make the move, will have our own cars.

Found an Internet cafe/place but they want US$20 PER HOUR. Seems very high.

Again, all the input appreciated.

Thanks.

David/Spock.

Sheepish grin here. I didn't scroll to the bottom of the page and it says the cost is in Pesos. I just saw the $$ sign and "assumed." I know.

When I saw that I almost went into V-Tach.

Thanks.

On my last trip to Ajijic, I was told that the peso sign has only one vertical line through the "S" and the USD sign has two vertical lines.

comments?

You will want directions in English in case the cab driver does not read Spanish or English. One of you should be able to follow directions.

After that little lapse maybe it should read "When all illogical explanations have failed, we must look to the logical for the answer."

OK, I should have known. How about this one?

I know U.S. coins are not usually accepted but how about the new "Gold" one-dollar pieces? I was thinking of taking some as they look nice.

Thanks.

You're correct, Sandy, but they are often confused and substituted one for another. BTW, here's the $$$$$ sign on my english language keyboard, purchased in the USA...=^..^=. Go figure.

I don't know about the US $1.00 gold coins but it took about a year before the money exchanges in Ajijic would accept the new American $20.00 bills. One teller told me they were "money for games" - Monopoly money, I guess she meant!

So how much is a cab ride from the Guad airport to Ajijic (roughly)? Just curious.

Or exactly 299.00 pesos when ticket is purchased at the taxi kiosk.
(as of today 24/04/04)
Damn! Just realized I never took advantage of the fun of doing an 04/04/04 date! The one time this year where the date is understandable the world over including the US of A. Sadly feet/metres will naver have the same meshing although -40 = -40 in both, not certain where the up side happens.

Is the cab to Ajijic $20 per person or can two people travel for the same fare?

Juditha you suspicious old poo head! The cab ride is about $20.00 (220 pesos?). I've had as many as three in a cab and, yes, with luggage.

As I recollect, there are two rates; one during the day and a more expensive rate late at night.

Based upon our experience yesterday, one should expect to pay $350 Pesos for a ride from the Guadalajara central bus terminal to Ajijic or Chapala no matter how many people ride. This is about a $100 Peso premium over what one would pay for a taxi from the bus terminal to the Chapala busstop in Guadalajara, the Chapala bus fare and a taxi in Ajijic. Well worth the extra equivalent of $10USD. After 13 hours on the bus from Nuevo Laredo, one does not wish to save $10USD for a delayed ride to lakeside.

By the way, the top of the line luxury buses in Mexico are splendid and very comfortable. Damn cheap too. That may be the only way to travel long distances in this country. Those of you familiar with Greyhound will be amazed at the Mexican luxury buses.

If you don't mind answering, how much is the bus from the border to GDL? Thanks
