Exotic Ship Docks in Mazatlan

Can't Post | Private Reply
Since I have a view of all the cruise ships coming in to Mazatlan, I can check out the details and watch them maneuver around the harbor etc with my binoculars. Today, a new one came in which I believe is registered in Germany. It's small compared to some of the massive ships that cruise through but with only about 600 passengers, the rooms are supposed to be deluxe accomodations. The name of the ship is Maxim Gorky.

Right on. Once in awhile we get ships into the port with exotic itineraries, but I haven't seen this ship in Mazatlān before either. I too got out the binoculars and next to the Carnival Pride also in the port today, it looks very tiny.

The Maxim Gorkiy, often referred to as Maxim Gorki, with it's Russian onboard flavour (officers), is registered in the Bahamas but is now under full German charter by a company called Phoenixreisen. This ship has some interesting history. President Bush and Soviet President Mikhail S. Gorbachev held the first talks of their Malta summit aboard the Soviet cruise ship.Another neat thing about the Maxim Gorkiy is that it operates under steam so is really quiet. Perfect for a little world cruise!

For those as interested in ships as I am, I found this profile online, but I am quite sure the ship has been nicely updated inside since this was written.

So we should have a few German tourists around the town today which will be nice. The ship has a webcam, however at the time of posting this link it still shows it out at sea near Cabo San Lucas. Hopefully it will be updated while it is in the port today and you can get a look at a beautiful day in Mazatlān from the bridge of the Maxim Gorkiy.
