Internet Options--Help!

Can't Post | Private Reply
We moved to Mexico a year ago. We've been staying in an apartment loaned to us by friends and we share the phone line. We pay for the internet access. In the next couple months we'll be moving to our new home which is now under construction. We were horrified when we found out that the fiber optic cable ends just about a kilometer north of our fraccionamento (a new one). Without fiber optics I know the internet will be SO slow. Cable also does not come out this far. Do we have any other options? I'm pretty good at computer software, but my knowledge of hardware options is very limited. I'd appreciate any help.

Have you actually investigated the availability of DSL service? Telmex, as an example indicates that their Prodigy Infinitum service is available in the city of Aguascalientes, which I presume you're inquiring about (you didn't indicate). People frequently cite a physical requirement of being within 4.5 KM of the telephone company's switching facilities ("Central Office") in order to obtain DSL service, but through use of technologies such as remote access multiplexers this range has actually been extended considerably, making the drawing of circles around the physical location of the CO on a map obsolete (if the glass you're talking is actually installed and/or used by the telco, it's a good sign). The only real way to find out is to contact the provider.

I was going to ask the same question about Internet service in Ajijic, so I will be following your thread to find out how people reply. Pardon me for piggybacking, but there's no sense of asking the same question twice.
