Laredo to Mazatlan

Has anyone taken this route? It looks like the midpoint is Torreon. Any reccommedations for a hotel?

We did a year in a half ago but we went straight through and did not stop. We crossed the border around 5am and it took us about 16 hours to get to Mazatlan. We took the toll roads though. The Devil's Spine Mountain is gorgeous! - But be very careful!!!
