Women Driving Alone

Can't Post | Private Reply
I'm starting to plan my escape to Mexico in the next few years and want to take a month long trip next spring to check out different places. I live in Austin, Texas and I'm considering driving. I'm pretty independent and not afarid to travel alone in the States; but what is the general concensus about a woman driving across Mexico alone.

Anyone ever done it? Any issues with a single woman (and two small dogs) that I need to consider.

Hi, I'm a single female also, also want to move to Mexico and if I do will have to move down. I have a very protective, large Great Dane who won't allow anyone near the car if I'm in it and I've always been concerned if I was stopped by the police...would they shoot him? He's not mean, just sounds mean. I've read somewhere that women driving alone are safe, just don't drive at night...

Thanks for any comments.

Jan, if you will be driving accompanied by a Great Dane, you will definitely not be driving alone. The size of the animal alone will afford you protection!

When I drove for the first time from the Texas border to Lake Chapala, I was accompanied by two medium size dogs which barked anytime a man came near the car. It made the revisiones much easier; often I was just waved through, as folks really didn't want to stick an arm in the window with two wacked-out animals inside the vehicle.

I can't imagine a policeman shooting your dog. Well...I suppose I can imagine it, but of all the things that could happen, that would be way, way down at the bottom of the list.

There are other Danes here at Lake Chapala. C'mon down.

I'll be traveling with a corwardly 4 1/2 lb toy fox terrier - not much protection there. I know guns are a big no no in mexico (I wouldn't carry one anyway) but how about mace or pepper spray for protection - any problem with that?
