Menaje de Casa - Dollar Amount?

Can't Post |
Does anyone know if you have to place a dollar value next to each of your items? If so, what is the purpose?

I've seen examples of menaje with values and without. When I called the embassy, they couldn't tell me.

Is there a limit to the dollat value of items that you bring in?

As far as I can tell, the listing of value for items is not a requirement dispite the fact that the Protland consulate shows it on their on-line sample menaje. I was not required to list values, and I have never heard from anyone who was required to do so.

¿Anyone ever been required to show values on a menaje?

It's different if you are crossing without a menaje. There it is generally accepted to be a good idea to put values on your list of non-duty free items. But even that doesn't seem to be an actual requirement.

I don't know if the dollar amount is needed on the Menaje de Casa either, but you have heard from some of the known enperts. I will share what I have done so far in preparing my Menaje de Casa. I started with a household inventory list after I talked to a moving company to get rates. They seem to base it on CU Ft and weight. I am doing my inventory on a Excel spreadsheet with columns for "CuFt", "Weight", "$ Value", "$ Replacement" (what I can replace it for in Mx) and a "Sell/Move" column. By doing it in Excel I can let Excel calculate the CUFt from dimensions, guess the weight, but Excel totals it, total the Value, and based on that I am deciding what I will move or what I will sell or give away. You can take a Tax deduction for full value if you give it to a charitable organization. I am finding that many items aren't worth moving. I will create my Menaje de Casa from these results. I'll be glad to share my file if anyone is interested. lcrqa1@msn.com
