Los Mochis is an agricultural boomtown and the export center of Sinaloa. There is a dam on the Rio Fuerte which helps increase the productivity in what is a semi-arid region. It was originally discovered by someone from Pennsylvania who came to grow sugar cane. The city itself is surrounded by mango trees, and fields of cotton, wheat, rice, corn, tomatoes, and of course sugar cane.
It is the terminus of the Chihuahua-Pacific Railway which travels across the Sierra Madre (Copper Canyon, etc) Los Mochis is near the coast, with the port of Topolobampo and the ferry crossing to the Baja just south of the city. Los Mochis also had an international airport last time I checked. Worth a visit, I would say.
