Another new guy...

Hi all, I'm from portland and have been considering leaving this country to live in Mexico, maybe Mazatlān. I'm kinda having problems convincing my wife that it's a good idea though. A few of the many concerns she has are: Ocean pollution in/around Mazatlān, how bad is it? Corrupt police/Government, how big of a problem? What is the quality of schools for the kids? Is it hard to get/keep access to the internet/phones? How's the job market for iron workers/welders or other work in general? Sorry to bombard you with so many questions, but I really don't have anywhere else to ask them. Thanks very much for any replies!

OK, I just wanted to add that when I first posted that question, I was only going to ask about the ocean pollution. Before I posted it I did a quick search and came up empty. But while writing my post, I kinda got carried awawy and asked all my other questions that I hadn't yet searched! My bad! So I have found info on the corrupt police, the schools, the whole working thing, in fact that will likely be what keeps us from coming :^( so I still don't know about the pollution in the ocean, and I haven't looked for info on the phones yet. Just wanted to say that so you don't think I didn't bother to check for myself, thanks!

If you are asking if you can swim in the ocean here, the answer is yes. The beaches are clean and well kept.

Yes, that was basicly it (surfing). I've always been under the impresion that mexico had very little, if any laws about pollution. I was afraid they might dump sewage right in to the ocean. Even here in the states, look at how bad the water in L.A. gets when it rains! Thank you very much for your reply!
Now I must try to figure out how I can secure a US income, while living in Mexico!! Thanks again!

Jay, if you can discover how to earn a U.S. wage in Mexico, legally of course, write the book and that will be your personal ticket to financial freedom. Good luck.
