And a big "HOLA!!" to you too!! Many of us have had the same experience (I for example) of coming down here on vacation, loving it and the people and just up and moving down here. Some last and some don't. Then there are the people who study it and want everything right before they make the move--some of them even end up coming down here after all the studying and making all those plans--some of them last and some don't. my first suggestion is to go to http://www.mexconnected.com/...ivinginmexindex.html and read everything there is to read there. Most of your questions will be answered. Then come back with any specific questions you may have. As you will read--YES, you have to have a work permit (FM-3) to do any kind of lucrative for money type work. There is also an FM-3 "Rentista" that you can get that makes some things easier and is recommended if you want to stay a while--you CANNOT work unless it is specified on the visa--which is kindof a catch-22 situation since before you can get a job you need your working papers and before you get your working papers, you need a job. BTW Lots of folks teach English. It is fairly easy to get a work permit to do that. Another good message board--although geared more to CAncun--is at http://www.cancunassist.com/forums/living/ Take a look at the "homework" I recommended and come back with any questions you may have. Last year for our honeymoon, my husband & I went to Playa del Carmen. Ever since then, we've had the idea in our heads to just move there for a year or so. We don't have any kids, are in our 20's, have one 25lb dog that will have to come with us, and we will have $30,000+ USD saved up by the end of summer. We're about 90-95% set on going, and I'm looking for any insight on this, good or bad, about what we would need to do, apartment searches, medical/dental insurance, etc. I've been looking online, and I'm feeling overwhelmed. Do we have to get work permits to do odd jobs, bartend a few nights or something along those lines? We can live on our savings, but if we become restless, want to have options of working. Also, what about teaching english, is there a need for this in the playa area? I wouldn't think so with all of the tourists, but who knows. Any and all advise will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jennifer
