GOLF - for residents not Tourists

Can't Post |
I am getting the impression that playing golf on decent courses can be expensive in Mex (regardless of the area). I'd like to live/retire somewhere in Mex that I have visited before. I was wondering about the experience of folks retired in MEx and the general cost of golf on good courses. Some of the prices (maybe resort) I saw in Mex were expensive. Has anyone advice on playing good/decent quality courses or reasonable Golf club memberships in MExico? I know these are general questions and perhaps hard to answer.

Bob,

There is a golf course in Puerto Aventuras (which is south of Playa del Carmen). It is 9 holes that gets a lot of locals, it costs $35US to play on a dily basis but has cheaper rates for members. Contact them for information. I am not a golfer so I cannot rate the course. The course in Playa del Carmen which is supposed to be nicer charges $125US.

Here is a web site of the area there is a contact somewhere on the site.

There are a few guys who work as course marshals in exchange for free golf at one of the most prestiges courses in Mazatlan. The cruise ships bring their passengers to the course two or three times a week plus some of the local "tour" operators sell a package that includes golf. For that reason, the course uses ex-pats who speak English. It's a course designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. I play a little golf and that course is located right on the beach. In fact you have to be careful that you don't park your cart under a palm tree and get bonked by a falling nut. On part of the course, you can see the waves. It's a VERY challenging course. Cost per 18 holes including cart is around $100 US.
