There are hundres of tequila brands and all of those are mexicans produce in the tequila region if is not that it cant be called Tequila.
In my opinion the best Tequilas are:
Don Julio reposado
Herradura Reposado.
You can drink them alone. They are a expensive around $60.00 usd a bottle.
The following tequilas are less expensive and also you can drink them alone:
Cazadores
Centinela Reposado
Gran Centenario
And From Margatitas and mixes I recomend you:
Casco Viejo
Cuervo Tradicional
They are betheen 35.00 and 40.00 usd a bottle
Enjoy!

Sure, there is also a part of the states of Michoacan, Tamaulipas, durango and Guanajuato that has the "Denominacion de origen", what I meant is that in any other country can be called Tequila... even if is the same thing

My votes for sippin' tequilas are:
Herradura Anejo - best of the best so far..smooooth
El Jimador Reposado - best taste for the peso. I am puzzled, however. Some bottles of this say "100% Blue Agave" and some don't. Anybody know why this would be for the same product?
Casa Real Reposado - hard to find in the States so far
Cazadores Reposado - from Arandas...a different taste...seems a little sweeter than others
None of the above have a salty taste. It seems that most made by Sauza are a little salty for my taste...personal preference only.

More than you ever wanted to know about Tequila

For everyday drink mixing, margaritas, and tequila and OJ, I use Jimador. It's decent, relatively inexpensive and available everywhere. For something to just sip, I like Sausa Hornitos and Sausa La Perseverancia. When tequila starts getting over $40.00 a liter, it's a little out of my league. There a lot of new fancy tequilas now on the market and many times you are paying as much for the handblown bottle as the stuff inside.
Here is a link to a 14 part dissertation on tequila:
http://www.ianchadwick.com/tequila/
