Building Project Update for 29 November 2003

This was a good week, one of those where progress is visible. The upstairs is finished now that the doors have been installed. Gonzalo, one of the two adult sons still living at home, moved in as soon as the door for his room was hung.

The water and sewer rough-ins are completed, so the trenches in the floor were filled in. Then we were able to pour concrete to make the new floor topping. As with the upstairs, we laid conduit and pipes on top of the existing floor, so the topping covers these. The topping also levels the floor which is a major issue because the original floor was build at three different times and has three slightly different levels. When we combined the original living room, kitchen and utility room into one large room, the floor irregularities became very apparent.

Ruben and I have about one more day of electrical rough-in work to do.

The plaster guys will be back on Monday. While they are working in the house, we'll turn our attention to the outside -- stucco patches, paint and new sidewalks.

It's always a pleasure watching the progress. It must be difficult though doing the accounting especially showing both dollars and pesos, especially with the way the rate of exchange changes.

I do it on a spreadsheet in pesos that are converted to dollars at 10:1. I am far too lazy to track the current rate. The peso numbers are what we actually paid; the dollars are a close approximation.
