I arrived in Ajijic in late summer of 1997 to take possession of my newly purchased home and signed up for internet service. I didn't know that Lagunanet, the first Internet Service provider lakeside, only started up a few months earlier. Our own MexConnect webhefe David was often at the office. I now help out at Lagunanet and he still occasionally comes in. In those days I still hooked up via a telephone modem. I soon learned that one needed to have a high quality modem to ensure a solid connection. Just because one has a new computer does not mean that s/he has a modem meant for 3rd world telephone connections. So make sure that you have a good modem, especially if you are going to be out in the sticks, where the chances are great that your connection will be "third World". Good luck, Pete
