Skype

Has anyone used this free peer to peer phone service yet? I just heard about it and it does look pretty good. The person I heard about it from is using it and says that is is very good. He was using it this morning from Toronto to Ajijic. Great quality he said.

See the home page at: http://www.skype.com/

I have yet to try it as I haven't had time to contact anyone to have them download it and to try it with them. Sure would be an interesting service. It is very new.

Shoe, did you read the following:

About Beta Software
Skype is currently Beta software which allows us to get valuable feedback from our users while we continue to enhance our product. As with all “beta” software Skype is provided “as-is" and Skype does not accept any responsibility if the software causes problems on your computer. We do require all beta users to accept our End User License Agreement prior to installing the software. Please also note that all features (and in particular some bells and whistles) may not have been developed yet. Please pay close attention to the latest release notes and known problems prior to reporting any problems with the software.
As a Skype Beta user, you will be allowed to fully test our software free of charge until the beta period has ended. At that time, you will be notified how you can acquire a full version of the Skype software.

A tip: If you are running Windows on your computer, you already have Netmeeting as part of the package and it is free. I've been using it for years to call my parents and sister in Germany for free. We also have PC cam's installed and have the added benefit of being able to see each other while we telephone.

Try this website for more information http://www.microsoft.com/windows/netmeeting/.

I just quickly checked skype. Unfotunately, it requires Window 2000 or Xp. So if you are under an older version, it will not work. Plus, it requires a connection at 33 Mhz. <amy people, I know, only get 22-24 which is another reason to doubt that it will work for many people.

To Whom May I Direct Your Free Call?
By NICHOLAS THOMPSON
The makers of the file-sharing application Kazaa have created a way to allow people to make high-quality phone calls over the Internet without having to pay a penny.

This will be of interest to you, Shoe. All we need is broadband.

Yes, good article. Broadband would be nice. It is supposed to work at a connection of 33 K also but I haven't tried it yet as I don't get that connection very often. I really want PC to Phone. I am going to try http://www.iconnecthere.com/ for that use for now. It doesn't cost much.
