What is the best route from Ajijic to Laredo?

Finally getting myself together for my drive to the States via Laredo. Was sidetracked for more than a week by one of those "bacterial infections". I have read dozens of interesting posts from all of you concerning the conundrum (sp?) of which route to take, 57 or 54? Or, for those of you who think in terms of names, via San Luis Potosi or Zacatecas. Both seem to have their good and bad points and I am having a lot of trouble making up my mind. I am going alone so don't even have a navigator to bounce it off of. Any experienced opinion is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Scarlet

I vote for 57. If you take 54, you'll encounter a long slow, twisting 2-lane mountain road that dumps you into the north side of Guadalajara. You'll have a hell of time driving across GDL with heavy traffic and poor signage. 57 is a piece of cake.

Thanks Rolly, I have heard that the road between Guad and Zacatecas via 54 is rough. I was told if I wanted to go via Zacarecas to go through Lagos de Moreno and then Aguascalientes to Zacaatecas. Then 54 to Saltillo. What do you think of that route? Thanks, Scarlet
