The New Project Begins

We spent this week bashing down walls, ripping out doors and windows, and generally making a hell of a mess out of the Valdepeñas family home. Sr Valdepeñas watched and laughed a lot. La Señora refused to come look.

We did demolition Monday - Thursday. On Friday we went back to Las Casas (the original project) to do some odds and ends, and to try to get the water working for Rosa's house. We were not successful, but we did determine that the problem is a clog in the line coming down from the tank on the roof. Enrique will be back from Los Angeles this weekend, so he can deal with the problem on Monday.

Also on Friday we bought bricks, sand, cement and cal to begin re-construction on Monday. Meastro Manolo will be rejoining us on Monday.

Ruben and Nanny worked so hard this week that I gave them a holiday on Friday afternoon and Saturday. I was tired too.

The new story starts at http://rollybrook.com/Remodeling_Plans.htm This week’s post is two pages long.

Thanks for the construction fix just before I started to go into withdrawal symptoms!

One minor "hmmmm" question is that in all of the photos it showed Coco cutting out the old rebar web from the demolished floor slab using what looks like a 4-inch grinder. Particularly considering the Valdepeñas family trade as welders, is there some reason they didn't just use an oxyacetlyene torch and go for it?

He doesn't have one. He does only electro-welding. I once asked him why he doesn't have one. He said for the kind of work he does, he doesn't need it.
