safe deposit boxes in Mexico

Yes they do exist. Not a lot of them. Depends where you want to live. Many banks have them but you must have a lot of money in their bank to get one. Depending on how you plan to arrive, you may consider purchasing a small safe or lock box and bring it with you. Most walls are concrete so it is hard to install a box like that without good equipment. If you plan on staying for a short period, leave you important stuff at your US /Canadian home or bank. You will need papers if you drive. I have never been asked for ID other than driving. Than it happens seldom. Make copies of all papers and carry the copies. Have them laminated at Office Depot or some other place if possible. Leave the originals in your Mexican home. Make color copies. In Mexico, few policemen will know the difference between a copy or original if it is in color and laminated. Most don't care.
Hope this helps.
: Do these exist? Where does one keep treasured documents like passports and visas when in Mexico? Are we required to carry ID on us?
