Re: Virus & Banks

The new virus making the rounds is the Bugbear.b virus. This virus is directed as 1200 different banks and can record your keystrokes if it is on your machine. this is how it gets a user name and password.

I don't know if this is what happened to Jim, but please, if you are using Outlook Express for mail update your virus program every day and scan for viruses every day. Better to be safe than sorry.

If you don't have a virus program and want a free one go to:

I would never use Outlook. Too many problems. More holes than Swiss cheese.

I log onto the internet and use my MXC mail account as my home page. I don't use Prodigy, AOL, MSN, etc. I have a software firewall, and ad smacker, and a virus checker that downloads updates automatically every morning.

I don't open e-mail from people I don't know unless the subject line convinces me that it is really for me and just spam. I will download a picture file from someone I know, but I will do on my Hotmail account because they provide another layer of virus protection.

Thus far I have not had a problem. I have seen a few e-mails attachments flagged as infected.

My allergy to Outlook is so bad that I don't even have the thing on my computer.

E-mail clients

Can't Post |
I've tried and reviewed a number of e-mail clients, and Eudora Pro 5.1 still comes out on top. Pegasus would come a distant second.

In addition to the anti-viral safeguards, Eudora Pro stands out head and shoulder above the pack in setting up filters.

Spamnix provides a plug-in for eudora that is a very effective, easily trainable spam filter especially for Eudora - both PC and MAC versions.

Mailwasher

I use Outlook to pick up mail from my Toronto server. But before I do that I use Mailwasher. It shows me the To, From and Subject Line. Then I have the option to bouce the email so that the person sending it gets a message "user unknown" and also I have the option to delete without downloading anything. Anything I bounce back to someone also shows up in the future as blacklisted.
