Oaxaca's Rural Tourism Fair

The following is a non-commerical announcement about an event on July 5th in Oaxaca City.

Since 9/11 tourism in rural Oaxaca has diminished significantly. A Los Angeles Times story got my attention and I've been thinking of ways in which viajeros and locals could learn about the options of rural travel.

The idea is to host a modest one-day event on July 5th in Oaxaca City.
The Rural Tourism Fair will be followed by various trips and excurions organized by communities and local operators. They will charge the travelers directly at the event.

Many MC readers who know me from my website, Planeta may not know that my work is based in Oaxaca. I'm looking forward to this event as a win-win-win for everyone. Those who cannot join us will find relevant info and updated features online Planeta.

Cheers!

Update -

The second Rural Tourism Fair will be held Saturday, January 31, 2004. There will be more exhibitors, more visitors and more tamales. And the event is free to the public!

We had more than 200 participants and the event was well received. Many thanks to those who attended. Special kudos to David McLaughlin and the readers of Mexico Connect for their support. I heard from 3 visitors at the fair they heard about the event via this website!

Cheers, Ron
