Is there a place in Morelia where people go swimming in the summer? Do people drive to the coast "for a swim" in the ocean? Where is the closest la playa? Any info would be appreciated.

People in Morelia can go swimming all year 'round if they're members of Club Campestre or Futurama. There are a number of other private swim clubs as well.

Cointzio, on the road to Patzcuaro, and El Ejido, on the same road, have nice, inexpensive outdoor swimming facilities.

More distant but within easy access are the balnearios at Zinepecauro and Huandacareo.....and what almost amounts to a water park at the Hacienda Caracha just outside of Uruapan.

The closest beach is Playa Azul, a "popular" destination, about 3.5 hours distant on the cuota.

But since summer in Morelia spells the rainy season and a respite from the hot weather we've been enduring in the weeks past, there really isn't a great race to the swimming pool during those months.

Gracias Señora Rose. It seems that your hotest weather comes in the spring time. Is this correct? I guess when my wife and I are visiting Morelia in July we will not go swimming unless maybe if we go to the Ocean. I assume it is hotter on the coast than inland at higher altitudes.

Forget the name of Princess Summer-Fall-Winter-Spring of Howdy Doody fame. Here in Morelia, and a goodly part of Michoacan, it's Winter-Summer-Spring-Fall. The hottest weather does fall from the end of March to late May, and we're praying that rains come ASAP.

Once the rains come, it's a gloriously beautiful time to be in Michoacan. Afternoons are marked by a serious, better-take-cover and stay-put rainfall from about 5 to 6 p.m., and nights filled with gentle, light, all-night-long drizzles. Perhaps two days of the entire year may be marked by all-day rain, but that's not the norm. Everything is a spectacular Ireland within a week after the rains begin, the air is fresh and clean, the temps fall, and there is no dreaded humidity inland. It's the most beautiful season and a wonderful time to be in Morelia.

Given the length of your stay, finding a place to swim should really be on the 20th page of your priorities.
