Price of MBE

I just called MBE in Laredo, TX to inquire about getting mail forwarded to Ajijic. I was quoted a price of $10.00 a month for the box and an additional $18.00 each time mail was forwarded up to one pound. Now if I only wanted mail twice a month that would be $46.00.

I don't mean to sound penurious, but ain't that a bit much?

For two years now I have used the Mexican postal system and find it to be very good. Things take just as long as they do with MBE.

I just got a thingy a me giggy that allows me to take phone calls while I am on the internet (dialup). A friend in the US sent it in a bubble bag, airmail, with air mail written in Spanish under the sticker and in the bottom left corner in Spanish it said "Equipment for Telmex telephone-Urgent". Took 2 1/2 weeks to get here and no duty.

Last winter I ordered online 2 pairs of lambskin wool slippers from Australia. I told them to send it regular mail, put them in a bubble bag and in the bottom left corner write in Spanish "Left at Hotel". 3 weeks to get here.

I have ordered books from Powells with free shipping and had no problems.

MBE was an absolute nightmare!!

Price for Ajijic PO Box. $11 a year.

Thanks T de D, that pretty much confirms what I am beginning to think. I already have a Ajijic Post Office box, but I was considering a MBE account for occasional internet purchases, but not for $46.00 a month.

If you have friends in the US that will help you, then you should have no problem.

I often order things from Ebay from sellers who will ship internationally. I usually save some money even with the shipping cost.
