Any Recommendations for a BandB in SMA?

Can't Post | Private Reply
My wife and I are looking for a bed and breakfast in SMA for a week or so at the end of June. I'd also like to attend language school. Any suggestions? Muchas gracias. Mac

Rainy season

The end of June is rainy season--which is the BEST--but check a map before you rent a room. Walking in a downpour--all cabs full--is only fun once, if at all.

I'm planning on attending language school for the month of July and because I know it is rainy season, I'm curious why you think that is the best (which I'm happy about mind you!)? Also, I'm thinking of staying at Casitas de las Flores which they say is in the Colonia Allende neighborhood about a 15 minute walk from center - do you happen to know anything about that neighborhood and/or whether it truly is a reasonable walk and safe?

I would so appreciate any help you might provide and thank you, thank you in advance.

I don't know Casitas de las Flores so can't answer there, though the whole town feels safe walking even at night to me. (I'm not talking about dark deserted streets mind you, but the main streets.) It's far safer than almost anything in Los Angeles for sure!

The weather seems to be messed up in much of the world, and San Miguel has had an exceptionally hot April and May (usually the hot season, but this is ridiculous--it's been up to 100 several days!). Lots of us are looking forward to rainy season, which actually is supposed to be June-October, but I think nothing can be counted on anymore.

It did rain most days last June-October, often for about an hour in the afternoon, only rarely for more than a day straight, and often there were a couple days respite from the rain. The weather is cooler, usually not over 80 (but again, I don't think you can count on averages from the past). The humidity is of course somewhat higher during rainy season, and there are some fantastic lightning storms--we lost our electricity a couple of times for a couple of hours.

But overall the rainy season felt absolutely lovely to me last year, and the bright sun breaking through the rain and raindrops sparkling off the renewed flowers more than compensates for the minor inconvenience of the rains. Carry an umbrella always, just as you should carry a broad-brimmed hat on sunny days and bring a jacket for evenings especially during the winter.

Overall this weather is the most perfect of anyplace I've lived, probaby most comparable to LA without the crime, traffic, density and prices.

The rains clear the dust and bring out the green. It's also cooler and generally more comfortable. The rains come mostly in the afternoon and overnight, so it's easy to plan. An umbrella is helpful, of course. The main inconvenience is that when a sudden downpour comes, all taxis are immediately taken (just like in New York City)--so be prepared for unexpected coffee breaks or cocktails when you duck into a restaurant to stay dry.

We welcome you to our town. We've had an incredible few days of very hot weather, and we all are eager for the rainy season. The best part is something few have mentioned. The desert turns into a verdant jungle!
