Does anyone know of a ferry that runs between Florida (probably Tampa) and Mexico? Please let me know if you do, and where to get information about it. Thanks

I've been checking on the status of ferry service to Progreso/Merida and since May this year not a single piece of good news has been heard
There seem to be 3 companies interested in providing service, 2 out of Tampa, and 1 out of Miami.
Basically they are all promotional and looking for financial backers
The only one that looks sensible, at least for part of the year is Scotia Prince Cruise Line,
http://www.sptimes.com/2002/03/20/Business/Authority_seeks_Tampa.shtml. They actually have a ferry that lies fallow for 6 months of the year when Newfoundland freezes over. The rest seem to be promoters.
I'd love to see it, and don't really understand why it hasn't been done. I imagine, both the US & Mexcican custom setups present some major obstacles

: : Does anyone know of a ferry that runs between Florida (probably Tampa) and Mexico? Thanks
We also have been watching this site vert closely. Here is what we have learned: There are two routes -on from Tampa to Progresso and another from Miami to Calica(near Playa del Carmen). We are interested in the later, as we are building an apartment in Playa. They were to have started this service at the end of May. Now we are being told November. We have not see anything about any problems-just that it is taking longer to get this operation up and running. If anyone has further details, please let me know.
