Can anyone help me out with information about what happens when you overstay your 180 day tourist visa?
First of all, do they really check it at the airport(my experience has been that they don't).
Second of all, how high is the fine?
Thirdly, could you pay it on the spot at the airport or would they yank you from your flight?
Thanks to anyone with a helpful answer.

I was instructed by the migration officer to go to the Bank branch at the airport and paid about 40 dollars for another FMT which I turned into the airline ticket agent before I could go to the departure gate.

I have gotten to the airport before and couldn't find my tourist visa. When we got to where they check them I was looking through my bags and purse and told them I couldn't find the paper, they just looked at my birth certificate and waved me through. Maybe it depends on how suspicious you look.
Mereja
: Can anyone help me out with information about what happens when you overstay your 180 day tourist visa?
: First of all, do they really check it at the airport(my experience has been that they don't).

The form you are given on the airplane, and signed by the immigration officer at the airport, is your tourist card. The same card that authorizes the time you can spend in the country. When you leave the country you are required to turn it in when you are confirming your flight at the airport. I don't know what happens if you don't have it but I have seen two people taken out of the airport by immigration (La Paz) when they did not have their tourist cards.

thanks for the reply.
just for avoidance of doubt, I know what my tourist card is and what purpose it has. It's just that in three departures from Mexico city airport, mine has yet to be checked, and I was wondering if others can corroborate that experience. which some have.
which la paz are you referring to, by the way?

If we were discussing South America one would assume a different La Paz.
