Am I getting jaded? I heard the drums and saw the dancers in feather costumes headed for the Jardin and didn't even get excited. Ho hum, another fiesta, there's one just about every day, I said as I complained about all the traffic.

But I did ask coollist what the fiesta was all about and was told it was in celebration of "Our Lord of the Conquest, Nuestro Señor de la Conquista." It is usually the first Thursday in Lent but was on a Friday this year, no one seems to know why. There is one image of Christ on the left atrium of the Parroquia which represents this aspect of Christ.

Apparently every week of Lent there is another kind of commemoration/fiesta. All that dancing and partying, not the version of Lent I grew up with! This one is a lot more fun.

The answer to "What is being celebrated today?" can usually be answered in a little known part of Mexico Connect - the Calendar of religious festivales found by clicking on the "Calendars of Events - Mexico" link on every forum's index page.
The one you want is at http://www.mexico-connect.com/...al&cal=cal3&
where you will see that on the 7th there were 3 main events:

El Señor de la Conquista
Fiesta del Señor de la Peña
Fiesta de Santo Tomás

In the calendar, each event name opens to a brief description of what and where.

Thanks for the link--MexConnect never ceases to surprise me. Primavera is springtime--does that fiesta have anything to do with Candaleria the first weekend in February, when seeds are blessed and San Miguel turns into a gigantic nursery with the population in a feeding frenzy to buy new flowers and plants?

Ah ha, the obvious solution is to look at the calendar link you provided: Fiesta de la Primavera is April 27, celebrated in both Frontera and Tepuxtlo.
