New Forum on Mexico Connect

Can't Post |
¡Bienvenido! Welcome!

Mexico Connect, in response to many readers’ requests, has initiated this new forum dedicated to the exchange of ideas and information regarding San Miguel de Allende and the city and state of Guanajuato.

San Miguel de Allende is one of the most important cities in Mexico both historically and architecturally. It is known as La Fragua de Independencia, the place where the movement to gain national independence from Spain was forged and created. In 1926 the Mexican government declared the colonial heart of the city a national monument and is still dedicated to preserving its historical character.

It also has the distinction, some would say a dubious one, of having found a place on major publications’ Ten Best Places to Live and Retire in the Entire World lists over the past dozen years. But the influx of foreign visitors who choose to remain and live in San Miguel actually began over half a century ago. Their arrival led to the founding and development of major cultural and artistic venues such as the Bellas Artes and Instituto Allende, both leading schools for training and instruction in all forms of art including painting, sculpture and music.

Today the city has a large foreign community, and while the majority is from North America, there also are many Europeans who have come to live and work on their artistic endeavors and enjoy the large number of cultural events that occur throughout the year. From classical concerts to jazz festivals to a local recreation of the famed Pamplonada of Spain, there is seemingly no end to the variety of experiences available in San Miguel and the nearby city of Guanajuato, the capital of the state.

The purpose of this forum is to help introduce San Miguel and Guanajuato to the readers of Mexico Connect, utilizing this format to provide personal and specific information on the questions that readers wish answered. As such, the topics for discussion should be relevant and dedicated to that end, and not of a commercial or political nature. Please observe the forum guidelines at all times.

As your moderator, Don Agustín, I welcome you to this new forum and trust it will provide the venue many of our readers have requested. ¡Qué se divierta!-Enjoy yourself.
