I have added a new page to my web site (Rollybrook.com) to provide a little insight into the often asked question “What does it cost to live in México?” It is still a work in progress. Your constructive comments and suggestions are welcome.

Rolly,
I commend you on your initiative in setting up this web
page so that folks can do their own comparisons. I am sure it
will spark comments from the expats in Mexico who will reply with
some comparison costs from their own areas in Mexico..... I believe
you are in the Durango area, and I don't know how the other areas
in the country compare.....
One poster commented that the prices were about the same as in the
Houston, USA, area. I have found areas in the USA where the prices are much less than those in Houston (and, therefore, Durango), but
I don't feel this forum is the place for me to comment further on
that......... While many people may consider your listed prices
to be average,........... I suspect that they live in the higher cost
areas of the USA or Canada......
I have for the last year really enjoyed your comments and replies
to many questions. You have the knack for helping folks without
trying to show off with witty or sarcastic replies, and those of us who regularly visit this forum appreciate it.

You have covered many items of interest. I should like
to ask , if you get the chance, for a few additional items:
Cost of (Walmart or similar stores):
Lowest cost of: 19 inch color TV set
two slice electric toaster
regular, plug in , telephone
5200 BTU air conditioner
roll of toilet paper
local movie (matinee or low cost special)

and, are there any all-you-can-eat buffets in your area for
Mex, Chinese, Indian, Thai, or "country kitchen" foods?
Thanks, again, Rollie, for your efforts on your web page.
Mabel
PS Please do not consider changing your name to "Uncle Rolly".
It's just perfect the way it is now...... (grin)

Hola Mabel,
Thanks for your nice comments. I'll check out your list. I have not seen a toaster, but I’ll look again because I'd like to have one myself.
As for the air conditioner, I have one I'll give you if you'll come get it. The air is so dry here on the desert that a swamp cooler works much better for a much lower electric bill.
No 'Uncle' for me, although my grandnephew in Texas calls me Tio as do some of the kids in my adopted family here. I’m also called viejo loco by some of my friends here. If you want proof of why, go to the General page and check out my post about searching for a hacienda in the desert.
Rolly

Good work, Rolly.........I hate shopping! My husband does that job, but your prices look similar to Mazatlan, at a glance. I will analyze mi esposo's latest grocery receipt closer! Thanks for doing that. What a nice touch for the folks in the north.
