went to a US "country" restaurant,

one of those places where seating is at wooden picnic tables and there is sawdust scattered on the floor. "This is the messiest restaurant I have ever seen! Why did you bring me here?" says my wife. Each table is served a big bowl of peanuts, I was showing my daughter how we open the peanuts and pitch the shells on the floor. Mama would scold her: "the place is already a disaster , don't make it worse." Then when the adults get a peanut fight going......well, I guess you had to be there.

Emiliano's in Morelia has a "throw your peanut shells in the floor" bar. I had to chuckle at my own reaction the first time I went there, having been in those kind of places in the U.S. before. "What kind of mess is this?" I thought to myself, thinking there was nothing cute or amusing about it at all. Ah, how our attitudes can change. How long did it take before your wife joined in the fray?

You are wrong Alex, you're confusing your wife's perception of the US ways with WHAT A GRINGO (YOU) INTERPRETS as her perceptions. Why don't you let her participate in these forums? And give us her own opinions. Can't she write? Maybe she has a higher IQ than yours? despite her glue gun.

That sounds like some of the bars I went into in Morroco. The only difference is that there they threw snail shells on the floor (escargot).

and it is likely that my wife's IQ is greater than mine. Imagine that, beauty AND brains. She indeed is literate, in the Spanish language. And she is good at expressing her perceptions to me.

I saw nothing offensive in Alex's statement and I certainly didn't feel he was denigrating his wife. I thought he was merely pointing out that there are some fairly odd practices in the US that we accept, but some would criticize if they saw somethig similar in Mexico. How about a bar that has a wire fence around the bandstand, so that reverlers cannot wing the musicians with the odd beer bottle. I am talking about bars in the US.

You might also consider Spain. In Salamanca I remember restaurants and bars where throwing the servilletes on the floor was not only acceptable but required. I remember leaving mine on the bar and having the waiter remove it from the bar and throw it on the floor. No disrespect meant toward Spain Mexico or the US.
