What do I need to do before I leave to teach in Mexico?

Can't Post |
Am intending to move to Mexico to teach english for a year or two, I have a degree, CELTA certificate and summer-school experience - and a tenuous offer of work.
What is a good idea before I leave to ease(?) getting a work visa (eg. getting degree + CELTA certs signed) - who by?
If anyone can post suggestions, experiences or links to articles on this I'd be most grateful.

In addition to the good advice about the grammar books and English/English dictionary - read the information at this link.
http://www.mexconnect.com/mex_/travel/dadams/daenglishinmexico.html
It covers practically everything you will need to know.....
Marlene.

: Am intending to move to Mexico to teach english for a year or two, I have a degree, CELTA certificate and summer-school experience - and a tenuous offer of work.
: What is a good idea before I leave to ease(?) getting a work visa (eg. getting degree + CELTA certs signed) - who by?
: If anyone can post suggestions, experiences or links to articles on this I'd be most grateful.

Assuming you're coming from the US, get all documents apostilled. I won't explain it here--just contact the office of the secretary of state of your state and they will tell you what to do. It's a relatively minor hassle and expense up there, a royal pain to do from down here. If you have a college degree, get a job at a university--they pay better and are better equipped than language schools. Jobs are fairly plentiful, but universities usually only hire at the beginning of the semester, which is right now and in January. Bring a GOOD dictionary and grammar books--they are hard to find here. Also, bring some money--it's hard to live on a teacher's pay.

I don't know the procedure for the UK. "Apostille" is the official legalization of foreign documents--it was created under the Hague treaty of 19??. Check with the Mexican consulate nearest you--that's what they do in Canada.

First of all, you might want to "bone up" on your spelling! Students here are very tuned in and they all know the official title of the grammar rules, they learn them in grade school........so presuming you know how to spell first of all, then you had better know what the "present perfect" is and how to explain it! Trust me on this one. (Your spelling of apology below is an example of work in progress for you.)
