"Smoke" in San Miguel Allende

In checking weather reports for San Miguel Allende we occasionally see forecasts of "smoke haze" or "smoke". Can anyone tell us where this smoke comes from? Is it a negative aspect in the area? How about asthmatics? Any information, Thanks

Having lived in San Miguel for two years in the 80's I will have to say that the smoke comes from the heating and cooking fires and the land clearing fires. Yes, the smoke is very dangerous to the health of asthmatics and the elderly..

They are probably burning a sugar cane field. They will burn a field of sugar cane to clear debris and leaves off of the cane. I don´t know how harmful it is to your health but care should be taken on the roadways around a planned burn because of the reduced visibility. Some areas will issue notices of a planned burn.
