Internet telephony

Here is the link to a NYTimes summary article on internet telephony.

If anyone knows the state of things in Mexico I'd be glad to hear it? Is the most likely future in Mexico dialup, broadband cable, or wireless internet for these functions? For snowbirds the best case scenario would be a reasonable cost internet/phone system that traveled with them providing a constant e-mail address and phone number. I used this stuff 2 years ago in the early days for some free national longdistance when I was still on dialup connection. Not bad, but not perfect. Now the newer technology seems like the answer, where the services are available. Is anybody up on it?

I use Prodigy dialup and frequently use Internet telephony with great success. I'm more than pleased. I've been using it for about 4 years and it just keeps getting better~most of the time now I can use it with no echo, no feedback, and no delay at all...just like normal telephone talk. The one I use is at www.delta3.com ; it runs $4.95/USD for 400 minutes of long distance to the USA and Canada. What a bargain.

AND...Prodigy Mexico offers its dialup service for 1500 pesos a year with access in approximately 700 cities in the USA and in almost all populated areas of Mexico~included in the yearly cost. When I travel, before leaving home I simply print out the access numbers in the areas where I'll be staying and hook up when I arrive. Same @prodigy.net.mx email address works from everywhere without a hitch.
