Hola,

I would like to confirm certain words, that Mexicans have told me, for different types of insects. Most, I am quite sure on and some, not so sure. Here are some as I understand them.

fly = mosca

mosquito = zancudo

gnat = mosquito

abejas de miel = honeybee

wasp = avispa, guitarona, talazote

ant = hormiga

grease ant = esquel/esquelina

arriera = carpenter ant

Anybody can confirm/correct/add to?

abejoro - bubble bee
tijerilla - scissor tail bug that cleans the corn
campamocha - mantis
chapulín - grasshopper
chinche - bed bug, sometimes stinkbug
chinche de compostela - those big black ones that bite
vaiborín - chiggers (often found on chinches de compestela)
áfidos - you know

Thanks Guys,

That's alot of good ones. I know stinkbug by "pinacate". I've heard them call bumblebees "negras". Would a tijerilla be an earwig?
