Visiting Morelia & Lake Chapala in March

Can't Post |
Hello all you nice folks in Lake Chapala

My husband and I have enjoyed reading your postings and have gotten a lot of food for thought about our plan to retire amongst you.

To that end, we are taking a 12 tour that takes us to Morelia and Guadelajara as an introduction to Mexico -- kind of getting our feet wet to see if it is a country in which we could live.

We will have several free days in Guadelajara and are wondering if you have any suggestions on how best we can use that time to get a feel for "lakeside" living as you call it?

While retirement for us is a few years away, we thought if all goes well with this tour, we would return again for another week to stay at a B&B and then, return and rent for 6 months or so before taking the plunge. Hopefully by then, I will have started my Spanish lessons and can get by without having to shop at that Supermarket you all speak of.

I'm feeling a bit seasick with that light blue lettering, First, what is a 12 tour, and second, Yes, you will need our two supermarkets for your every day foods and other things, no matter how well you speak Spanish.

So sorry PeggyS. I've been seasick once in my life and wouldn't wish it on anyone.

Things to do and see: In Ajijic, depending on what day you come: Wednesday visit the local market next to El Torrito. Spend some time on the terrace at LCS; be sure to say hello to Skip. Sit on a bench and enjoy the plaza. Have a fish taco at the seafood restaurant on the plaza. Walk along the "beach" and in the park next to the lake. Watch the sun rise or set at same. As a local weather predictor, look across the lake and check to see if Mt. Garcia has his cloud somebrero on. Walk the side streets in town checking out the abbarotes (little storefront grocery stores.) Breathe deeply, relax and enjoy yourself.

In Chapala do almost all the same things!
