House Project Update for 18 January 2003

This was a pretty good week. The roof is sealed and passed its first rain test. The plaster work is finally done. The stucco work is done except for a little bit under the stairs and a cover over the drain pipes on the west wall so they don't stick out like a sore thumb.

Coco has built and installed the sliding windows panels in the first floor north. Next week we will paint the windows and call the glass man to come. He will measure each window panel, then cut the glass, and return to install each panel.

The ladies had a big sanding party on Thursday to clean and sand the walls in the first floor north unit. Jesus finished the closets for that house and is starting on the kitchen cabinets. As soon as the cabinets are in place and glass is in the windows, the floor tile will go down.

The plaster man has finished the plaster, but he is still on the job. Now he is forming a decorative trim around the curved windows. We see him working with his helper son in this picture. The trim will be painted white and the wall will be yellow. The metal of the windows will be gold.

This week completed 11 months since we begain the project last February. We also passed the one million peso mark.

There is not much new to look at, so there is no webpage for this week. If you'd like to see the whole show, go here: http://rollybrook.com/house-building.htm

Hey Rolly ... after looking "at it" for all these months - how about a picture of the town from the roof .. or those beautiful mountains I saw in the background in one picture. It'd give us an idea what it's like to live there in that impressive structure. Just an idea <g>

Hey Rolly,

Just wanted to say thanks for all the work youv'e done documenting your project for everyone to see. Since my own project has come along so slowly, I've been able to get my "fix" of Mexico Construction every week from you. It's been great.

If all things go as planned, I'll be in Mexico in March. If it's possible, I'd really like a chance to see your place in person. We're not that far apart. I'm building in La Cuchilla, Coah. It's a couple of hours south of Eagle Pass, TX. It's part of the Municipality of M. Muzquiz. If you follow Hwy. 57 South from Piedras Negras/Eagle Pass to Nuevo Rosita, then you go west about 45 min you'll be in Melchor Muzquiz, a colonial town that dates to 1726. Muzquiz is nestled at the feet of the Sierra de Santa Rosa. This range starts here at Muzquiz and runs North West to connect with the Sierra del Carmen that spills over into Big Bend National Park in Texas. After looking at the map I think you might be 5 or 6 hours away. If you wouldn't object to us visiting (I'll be with my wife and 3 kids) send me an email with your directions

Thanks,

Howard Lyons

Visitors are always welcome. Thus far four groups from the USA have stopped by. Soon I am going to add to my website a how-to-find-me page with a map, directions, and pictures to guide visitors to the project. Stay tuned.
