I finally got to the cable company yesterday and actually remembered to ask about El Canal del Tiempo. The young woman behind the counter told me that the company went broke! She said that very few cable companies bought the service from El Canal del Tiempo and that they just plain went under. There's probably more to the story, but that's what I was told. BTW, she was talking to the elderly man in front of me about Televisa, which now wants (apparently against the terms of its contract) to charge for its signal. My cable company has quit broadcasting that station until it backs down, because the cable company says it will have to up its rates if they have to pay Televisa. Public pressure is strong to have the channel, so I suspect we'll see a price increase pretty soon.

Thanks for your note on LWR forum prompting me to look here! Last night we were at supermarket in Merida and there was a booth for Directv. I asked them and they said weather channel had very low ratings so it was dropped. Then he told me that for another $70pesos a month we could see a Directv version of the weather. Well, this annoyed me that we would have to pay more cause I think we already pay plenty! About $90US a month for the premium package. Oh well, we will probably get over our indignation and cough up the pesos! Thank you for your input and for thinking of me. I agree that what you say is true. We are going to be looking at higher costs.
