Access to books/libraries in Guadalajara

Can't Post |
This is my main concern with moving there: no public libraries. In the U. S., I can request any book I want through inter-library loan and they will track it down and deliver it to my closest library, all free of charge. How do those of you who live in Guadalajara manage to survive without libraries?

I don't live in Guadalajara, so I can't answer on the question about access to libraries in Guad. However you can get english books for purchase at Sandi's Bookstore. www.sandibooks.com or if you'd like to venture to lakeside, you could join the Lake Chapala Society and have access to there library.

These are just some of the sacrifices we make when moving to Mexico. Oh how I miss my monthly mags. It's hard to drop 5 plus dollars on a magazine that sells for $3.50 up north. Oh well, at least I got to wash my car again in January!

I have the same concern. You might check the discussion in response to my question about English language used books on the General Forum. Most of the answers concerned Guadalajara area.

Guadalajara has a variety of public libraries, including the main library near the corner of Independencia and Gonzalez Gallo.

I really think that the best bargain for readers is membership in The Lake Chapala Society. They have over 25,000 books and if you are a member os¿f LCS you can check books out. The membership costs 350 pesos for a individual and 450 pesos for a family.

I'm sorry, you must be talking about English-language libraries.

Thank you Esperanza and Jerry. Yes I mean English books. The library you mentioned Jerry sounds like a good reason to move to the Lake Chapala area, if it is not too expensive. I hope to take a trip down some time ancd check it out; I have family that live in Manzanillo.
