Problems with this service are:

1)

NOT legal in Mexico!

2)

No Factura Can Be Issued!

3)

Vonage uses a proprietary header on their packets , increasing Payload size. One local man was trying to use Vonage and found that it consumed his ENTIRE 256 K conncction

I can offer legal solutins with facturas and Incoming and outgoingf service, with Higher quality for less bandwith consumed. Vonage is geard to the US market where greater bandwidth is commonplace. It does not work well for Mexico

One other point , iof you read the fine print on the Vonage agreement, it is NOT TRULY unlimited service. I suspect it is simply a matter of time before Vonage is in litigation over this pratice of calling it "unlimited" when they actually DO place limits! It is also for RESIDENTAIAL, NOT for Business. Their BUSINESS Plan is substantially higher

Yes it is legal - it's a data service (unregulated in Mexico) not a voice service and it is purchased in the USA - it can be used legally anywhere in the world with a few exceptions (Iraq, Libiya, Chad, etc.)

A "factura" is not needed for most consumers.

The service is indeed unlimited - in fact many business use the consumer plan without problem.

Funny thing that two years ago I was offering this service via mexconnect.com. All I got was flamed because there was no factura available, and that the vendors are not licensed to do business in Mexico. I now offer a legitimate service in Mexico, After going through great troubles, and you flame me still!

You misunderstand. We are offering this service from the US and *only* to those with US credit cards and US shipping address. Mexican law is irrelevant.

Users however are free to use the service in any country they choose.

Is there anything out there to make unlimmited to calls from the USA into Mexico. I make alot of calls into Mexico and I live in the USA and my bills are outrageous.

Couldn't you use an internet phone service. There are many and very cheap, although not so cheap to Mexico as to many other countries.

I need a phone in Mexico that I can call Canadian toll free numbers, without getting the recording that 'this number is not available in your area". Any ideas?

What you want is called a VOIP phone. You will need high speed internet but don't need a computer. Vonage, Packet 8, Lingo...unlimited calls to US and Canada..cost $15.00 to $30.00 a month. There is an article in the SMA English newspaper this week..cheaper to call in Mexico than Telmex....it says. Many residents have them in SMA..excellent service. You order them or buy Vonage in Best Buy or Circuit City in US..Check it out..

Another one to look into is http://www.lingo.com/ which is what I have NOB.
Cheaper than Vonage also. I should add that I use it in lieu of a phone. I get my messages via e/voice mail.
Getting older and still not down here.
