Lagunanet Wireless Performance around the lake ?

Can't Post | Private Reply
Hi Friends .. Greetings from North-Central Florida !

I'm new to this board and have been reading through past threads about the wireless internet connection available from Lagunanet.

My wife and I are considering moving to Joco to be with her family there. She spent some years growing up in Jaco as a child and we have since visited when possible.

I'm a Radio/TV Broadcast Engineer by trade and know that wireless systems of any type can suffer problems from time to time. This is probably 2.4 gig (802.11b) and is a "line of site" RF system. (?)

Here are my questions. Is this a full time "always on" internet connection ? What kind of coverage and range are you getting ? Are there several transciever sites around the lake ? Anyone here have service in Joco ? Based on the importance of the broadband connection, what areas are solid for wireless service ? Asumming that directional yagi antennae are being used at the home, how high off ground level are you mounting them ?

Thanks in advance for any help and suggestions.. I plan to call Rod but want first hand USER feedback to educate myself to the situation.

Happy New Year !

Garrett

First, yes it is line of site.

Yes, although to save electric costs you will turn it off :) Also during lightening storms you will want it off unless you have really good protection for your computer.

Are there several transciever sites around the lake ?

Yes there is one in Riberas, two or three in Ajijic, one in Joco and one on the other side of the lake. They may be more as Rod (the owner) is constantly upgrading.

Anyone here have service in Joco ?

Rod lives just outside of Joco so I would say he has one of the best spots. :)

Based on the importance of the broadband connection, what areas are solid for wireless service ?

Riberas, Joco, Ajijic and anything with good line of site. I am in Chula Vista and have some problems because of trees, but if I was about 100 feet higher on the hill I would have no problems.

Asumming that directional yagi antennae are being used at the home, how high off ground level are you mounting them ?

Un huh!!! All I know is I have a twelve foot mast on my roof, but you have just left my field of knowledge. You really need to talk to Rod. His number is calling from the US is 011 52 376 766 0297 this is the office in Ajijic and 9:30 CST AM is the best time to reach him.
